What makes a good real estate agent?
Fi
r
st and foremost he or she must have an excellent handle over the market they are in. By looking at appraised values of properties, and recent sale price of scores of homes in a number of neighborhoods, a good agent will know what homes are worth. By doing the math he or she will be able to assist the home seller in arriving at a fair offer price.
Agents should know what various homes were listed at, sold for, and how much over the assessed value that figure was. Most agents would only take interest in the homes for sale that his/her clients want to see – a GOOD agent will go beyond this circle and take an interest in transactions of other home sales in order to have a more balanced view of the local realty market.
This is not to say that a good reltor must see every home on the market, but he or she should have a list with a hundred or more homes that they’re tracking sales of. This will allow an agent to give realistic, balanced advice to clients when they need it.
When showing homes, a good agent will be candid and point out any deficiencies in the property for sale to the seller. The realtor who remains silent is not helping his/her client sell that home. A realty agent should see the house being sold from the eyes of a potential home buyer and let the home owner hear what he will most likely hear from the people viewing the house.
Find the agent that does these things, and you have a qualified, skilled, and professional real estate agent that is worthy of the commissions they will receive.
